Shapewear has been a well-known territory for me since I was 15 years old, right when I started attending quinceaños which meant that using gowns was a weekly requirement.
I’ve mentioned my early use of solution wear before and often get surprised reactions. There’s definitely a taboo behind it. I believe some women think that shapewear is just intended for the use of older women. I am here to remind you that shapewear is meant to smooth out every line beneath that “difficult to pull off” fabric and emphasize your beautiful curves. No, it is not meant to “fool guys”, it’s meant for you to feel more comfortable under your skin, at any age, at any place.
As mentioned in my last post Living with Bloating, I’ve been dealing with chronic bloating for almost a year now. This time I was looking for shapewear I could use on a daily basis so, high quality was a requirement. First google search result: SKIMS.
Skims have mixed reviews all over. Some swear by it, some laugh at it. I just knew that there was a hype but I was a little hesitant to try a Kardashian product (first I’ve ever). I took the plunge and bought 2 pieces in Black Friday.
Products
I got the Core Control Thong (Clay) and the Core Control Brief (Ochre)
Review
Quality / Material
The material seemed durable and the seams strong enough BUT after one use (a photoshoot for this post) it ripped. #disappointed
Fitting
This is the most important part of the review for me. Unfortunately, this shapewear is not doing the work for me. It gives me a really weird shape and it doesn’t hold my bloating AT ALL. I am a size Small and was hesitant to order an XS because I like my shapewear to be tight and hold everything. I ended up ordering Small because the website and the reviews said that the pieces are very small and that you should order your true size or a size bigger. The shapewear rolls down under your clothes and it could be a wrong size what’s causing it but I don’t think a smaller size would hold my bloated belly while not rolling down.
As I purchased solution wear for the days I am bloated, I decided to take the pictures whenever I got bloated. Check the photos below, the difference is almost unnoticeable when I am wearing SKIMS.
Packaging
The packaging was quite nice, no plastic which is a Yes for me.
Shipping
TERRIBLE. It was Black Friday so I would have given the company the benefit of the doubt if it wasn’t because there’s an additional shipping fee, the package took 1 month to arrive and, until it arrives you have no idea wether your package is still on its way or got lost. The tracking number is broken and just tracks your package from the warehouse in the US to departure from US to your country. Also, I am located in Toronto which usually take less than a week to receive packages coming from US.
Price
I think these shape wears are overpriced. I have tried shapewear for a third of the price having better results.
This is my personal opinion. From a Marketing perspective I love how they have put the brand together and I love the brand’s mission overall but that’s not the reason I base my purchase decisions. I think I’ve said it many times on the blog, I have no issues paying more for products that do what they promise and this time I ended up wishing more.
I think when you get SKIMS you are mostly paying for the branding and packaging. I can’t deny the fabric feels nice but for me, the most important a shapewear must achieve is giving you great shape and it didn’t achieve that for me.
I will get an Amazon shapewear to try to get my desired results and to compare it with the Skims shapewear. Will be uploading soon.
Wow! Same thing happened to me. And I am so.disappointed because I was really hoping the fit and quality was going to be better than the cheap one I usually purchase but it was worst because i couldnt wear mine at all, it keeps rolling.
Same girl! I had lost some weight since I posted here and it still rolls up. I am done trying 😂
