Hyped brands… you know how I feel about them. Expectations are always high and high expectations tend to become higher disappointments (sometimes). More are the hype brands I review that are just OK than the ones I feel live up to their internet famous name.

The first time I got a Gisou product was exactly a year ago. At that time, you could only get Gisou products from their website, all shipped from Amsterdam. Needless to say, the shipping timing and costs were annoying.

If you follow my Instagram, you probably remember my excitement when the package arrived. That excitement faded away when a week later I received a Fedex bill for customs on that package: a 30 dollar bill… So, as my experience had been so terrible and I just got sample sizes of the shampoo, conditioner, heat protector and mask in a promotional package they had at the time, I decided to give some time before I found a way to get the famous hair oil (the most hyped product from the brand) before I posted this review.

Now let’s get to the positive part. Sephora came to the rescue! So now you can get the products I am about to review. Below you’ll find my honest thoughts after 1 year of using this brand.

Review

As mentioned, I’ve been using Gisou products for a year, religiously. My hair type is 2A, thin and prone to frizz.

Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil

Let’s start with the superstar. I think this is a great oil just because you can almost apply as much as you like and it does not leave your hair greasy. And for me, that’s saying a lot. It also tames my frizz and gives my hair a nice shine and smell.

Gisou Honey Infused Hair Wash Shampoo

At the beginning I thought they were a gem just because they smelled delicious and I kept receiving compliments. A few washes after I realized that the shampoo is so mild that I have to use about 6 to 8 pumps of the bottle to feel my hair is really clean. Because it’s so expensive and I just couldn’t believed that my thin, short length hair was using so much shampoo to be oil free, I tried doing less pumps. It didn’t work… It really takes a lot of product to leave my hair really clean.

Gisou Honey Infused Conditioner

This conditioner has really became irrelevant for me. I feel no difference when I use it or not. It doesn’t have much smell and I don’t feel it even detangles my hair properly.

Gisou Honey Infused Hair Mask

Having a thin hair, I often find that hair masks leave my hair feeling oily and heavy. On the contrary, this mask leaves my hair feeling healthy and lightweight. Now, I have never dyed or bleached my hair before and I think this mask would not probably be the best for damaged hair.

Propolis Infused Heat Protecting Spray

This product claims to protect against UV rays besides being a heat protectant. Does it really? Well, I am not sure! I have used this product to style my hair and felt no difference from other products I’ve used.

*Disclaimer* I’ve been using Gisou by itself for a year now. I have not mixed it with any other brand or hair treatment. This products were not gifted to me, this is a 100% honest review.
